“And when it is said to them, “Do not cause corruption on the earth,” they say, “We are but reformers.” Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not.” Chapter 2 Al Baqarah, verses 11-12.
These verses describe one of the worse types of people. They not only disobey Allah, the Exalted, but through their attitude they negatively affect others. Just like the Devil they desire to drag others down with them. It is important for muslims to always remember the Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 2351, which warns that a person will not only be taken account for their evil deeds but they will also be held accountable for every person who acts on their evil invitation. In addition, in most cases, sins between Allah, the Exalted, and a person are not as serious as the sins between people. As Allah, the Exalted, is infinitely merciful He will forgive a muslim if they sincerely repent. On the other hand, people are not so forgiving. If a victim does not forgive their oppressor justice will be established on Judgment Day. The oppressor will be forced to hand over their righteous deeds to their victim and if necessary, the victim’s sins will be shifted to their oppressor until justice is established. This may well cause the oppressor to be hurled into Hell. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 6579.
The one who adopts the mentality described in these verses deceives people by pretending to be their loyal friend. But because of their evil intention they only care about themself which causes nothing but trouble for others. A muslim should therefore, always carefully consider who they choose as their friends as they can either benefit them in both worldly and religious matters by inviting them towards good or through their corruption affect them negatively in both worlds. This has been indicated in a Hadith found in Sunan Abu Dawud, number 4829.
