“And when it is said to them, “Do not cause corruption on the earth,” they say, “We are but reformers.” Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not.” Chapter 2 Al Baqarah, verses 11-12.
Verse 12 warns that when one continues acting on evil characteristics, such as those mentioned in the previous verses, they will eventually reach a level where they become care free over their attitude. This mentality may even take them to a level where they believe they are doing good in society and those criticizing them are simply jealous of them. This can occur when one persists on the disobedience of Allah, the Exalted, and this has been warned in a Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah, number 4244. Whenever a person sins a black spot is etched on their spiritual heart and if they continue sinning this darkness will increase until it covers their spiritual heart. This cover will prevent one from accepting good advice and changing for the better. Chapter 83 Al Mutaffifin, verse 14:
“No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.”
Their ignorance of the spiritual harm they cause themself and the physical and emotional harm they cause to others is a great evil in itself, as the one who is ignorant of their negative behavior is highly unlikely to change for the better.
