PODTAFSEER: CHAPTER 2 – AL BAQARAH, VERSE 50 – PART 1

“And [recall] when We parted the sea for you and saved you and drowned the people of Pharaoh while you were looking on.” Chapter 2 Al Baqarah, verse 50.

This verse continues to remind muslims of the countless blessings Allah, the Exalted, has provided them. One should adopt this technique of mentioning and listing the blessings of Allah, the Exalted, especially in times of difficulty. This will inspire one to recognise a truth that even if they lose some worldly blessings they still possess countless more. This is an excellent way to maintain true gratitude of Allah, the Exalted, which is to use every blessing according to the teachings of Islam. Chapter 14 Ibrahim, verse 7:

“And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favour]…”

In addition, verse 50 reminds muslims of the many occasions when they felt they were completely stuck in a bad situation with no way out yet, in each case Allah, the Exalted, aided them and guided them out of it just like He saved the nation of the Holy Prophet Mosa, peace be upon him. But it is important to note that the condition which Allah, the Exalted, has set for this divine intercession is sincerely obeying Him by fulfilling His commands, refraining from His prohibitions and by facing destiny with patience. Whoever behaves in such a manner will be provided a way out of every difficulty in both worlds even if the entire creation gathered against them. Chapter 65 At Talaq, verse 2:

“…And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out.”

Having hope in Allah, the Exalted, without fulfilling this condition is simply wishful thinking which has no value with Allah, the Exalted. A muslim must act on true hope by striving in His obedience and then believe that He will aid them in their moment of need. Having this positive attitude is important as according to a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 3603, Allah, the Exalted, acts in according to His servant’s perception of Him. So if a muslim correctly hopes in Allah, the Exalted, then they should not doubt if Allah, the Exalted, will help them instead they should be certain that nothing escapes His knowledge and nothing is beyond His power to achieve.
