“…those [among them] who believed in Allah and the Last Day…” Chapter 2 Al Baqarah, verse 62.
An important aspect of the Last Day is when the Sun will be brought within two miles of the creation. This has been confirmed in a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 2421. This same Hadith warns that this will cause people to sweat according to their deeds they performed during their lives on Earth. Some people’s sweat will reach up to the ankles, some their knees and for others it will reach their mouths. One only needs to ponder over the times they were subjected to intense summer weather and how the heat affected their attitude and behaviour. Through this they can imagine how difficult the situation on Judgment Day will be when the Sun is brought so close to them. As indicated by verse 62 the only way to escape this difficult exposure is by truly believing in Allah, the Exalted. This involves fulfilling the commands of Allah, the Exalted, avoiding His prohibitions and being patient with destiny. A muslim should also learn and act on the Hadiths which mentions the groups of people who will be provided shade on Judgment Day so that they can escape this great difficulty. For example, a Hadith found in Jami At Tirmidhi, number 2391, advises seven categories of people who will be provided shade on Judgment Day by Allah, the Exalted. Namely, the leader who acts with justice, a young person raised in the worship of Allah, the Exalted, the one whose heart is attached to the Mosque, two people who love each other only for the sake of Allah, the Exalted, a person who remembers Allah, the Exalted, in private and cries, the one who avoids fornication out of the fear of Allah, the Exalted, and finally the one who gives charity secretly.
The important thing to note is that in each case these people remained steadfast on the obedience of Allah, the Exalted, and sought refuge with Him. It is hoped that the one who seeks refuge with Allah, the Exalted, through sincere obedience to Him will be granted shade from the difficulties of this world and from the intense and horrifying heat of Judgment Day.
