“And [recall] when you slew a man and disputed over it, but Allah was to bring out that which you were concealing.” Chapter 2 Al Baqarah, verse 72.
To conclude the discussion on verse 72, it is important for a muslim to always remember that no matter what action they perform it will be recorded and judged on the Day of Resurrection. This should inspire muslims to avoid sins whether they are open and visible to others or sins which are done in private. If one persists with this remembrance then they will eventually reach the station of excellence in faith which has been mentioned in a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 99. This is when one acts, such as performing the prayer, as if they observe Allah, the Exalted, watching them. Understanding this reality avoids sins and inspires one to perform righteous deeds.
In addition, the one who firmly believes in the accountability will never wrong those weaker than them believing no one can hold them accountable for their oppression. Sometimes what is hidden is revealed to others in this world. For example, when one seeks the faults of others Allah, the Exalted, will reveal their faults in this world and in the next. This has been confirmed in a Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah, number 2546. A muslim should always be fearful of committing sins and wronging others as it only leads to disgrace in this world and the next.
Finally, this verse also warns muslims not to dispute other things incorrectly such as disputing in order to take property which does not belong to them. As Allah, the Exalted, will eventually exact retribution and reveal the full truth. Muslims should therefore never take part in such disputes believing it is a small matter as the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, has warned in a Hadith found in Sunan An Nasai, number 5421, that whoever unlawfully seizes someone else’s property in a legal dispute will be sent to Hell on Judgment Day even if the property is as small as a twig of a tree.
