I had a thought which I wanted to share. I was pondering over an attitude which many people have adopted. It involves a person being contacted by another who has not communicated with them in a long time and only does so in order to request help. It is strange how a muslim in this situation often refuses to help. They claim that the other person only remembers and bothers to communicate with them when they need something from them instead of regularly keeping in contact with them which is a sign of a real friend. Even though, their claim has credit yet, they fail to realise that this was an opportunity to gain reward which Allah, the Exalted, provided them with yet, they passed it over and refused to take advantage. This is a truly foolish mentality. A muslim should take every opportunity to gain reward which they encounter irrespective of the situation.
In fact, even if a person cannot help as long as they have a genuine intention to help they will gain reward. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Sahih Bukhari, number 1.
In addition, this is one of the easiest ways to earn the help of Allah, the Exalted, as Allah, the Exalted, continues helping a muslim as long as they are helping others for His sake. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah, number 225.
To conclude, it is vital for muslims to take advantage of every opportunity in order to please Allah, the Exalted. The people who fail to behave in this manner will be left with a great regret on Judgement Day especially when they observe the countless reward given to those who did adopt the correct attitude. But by this point it will be too late and their regrets will not aid them. Chapter 89 Al Fajr, verse 23:
“And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell – that Day, man will remember, but how [i.e., what good] to him will be the remembrance?”
