“They said, “Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise.”” Chapter 2 Al Baqarah, verse 32.
The reply of the Angels mentioned in this verse teaches muslims an important lesson. That no matter what knowledge or status they achieve it was only possible through the mercy of Allah, the Exalted, in the form of inspiration, knowledge, strength and the opportunity to obtain a successful outcome. This attitude keeps one away from pride, which only leads to Hell. This is confirmed in a Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, number 265. Muslims should follow in the footsteps of the Angels and not the Devil, who believed his knowledge and many acts of worship were due to his own efforts and intelligence, which is mentioned later in this chapter of the Holy Quran.
Allah, the Exalted, is all-knowing as nothing escapes His limitless knowledge whether it is in the Heavens or the Earth, visible or not. The knowledge of Allah, the Exalted, has no limit, it has no beginning and no end and it is innate meaning, no one gave it to Him. Every creation which possesses knowledge has been granted it by none other than Allah, the Exalted. The knowledge of the creation is limited and has a beginning.
Allah, the Exalted, is fully aware of a person’s outer and inner being at all times. The muslim who understands this will refrain from both outward and inward sins rightfully believing Allah, the Exalted, knows all this and will hold them accountable for their actions on the Day of Judgement. In addition, they will not stress about worldly issues understanding that Allah, the Exalted, is fully aware of them and will respond to them in a way and at a time which is best for them. Chapter 2 Al Baqarah, verse 216:
“…But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.”
A muslim should act on this divine attribute by striving to gain and act on useful knowledge both worldly and religious. This is the path of piety and the true inheritor of the Holy Prophets, peace be upon them, which has been indicated in a Hadith found in Sunan Ibn Majah, number 223.
Allah, the Exalted, possesses infinite knowledge of all things and their real nature and therefore acts according to His infinite wisdom in a perfect manner. The muslim who understands that Allah, the Exalted, is the All-Wise will never object to His choices and decrees knowing there is much wisdom behind each of His choices which benefits His servants in ways which are beyond their understanding. A muslim should act on this divine attribute by using their knowledge and blessings according to the commands of Allah, the Exalted, as this is the ultimate wisdom a person can possess.
